Kite Force.

ONCE A KID, ALWAYS A KID!

From as early as I can remember, I have enjoyed building and flying simple kites. Dad would be missing wood from the shed
and mum was always running out of brown paper in the house. Sticky tape, glue, wool, fishing line and material, it was never
to be found. Hours, days and weeks were spent making my flying creations.

It's a funny sport like no other. There is a sense of freedom whenever I am out flying.
I was always a regular at the old Terrigal Kite Festivals. People would come from all over just to fly their kites.
In the early 90's I began to build a competitive streak. Like most teenage boys I guess. It was also becoming harder
to fund my love of kites and decided to earn some pocket money. To my amazement I found a little local kite shop at
the Entrance who was willing to give me my first paid job.

I made, repaired, designed and flew all sorts of kites. I was so passionate about my sport that I competed in a
number of different events at local, state and national levels.
I have seen the industry change over my 14 years of involvement. It's amazing the conversations that you have with
people about an old kiting experience. Now a days I am a happily married man with 2 kids (Ruby and Aidan)

Together with my brother-in-law Jarrod who also has a keen interest in kiting, and our wives, my dream of owning
a kite shop has become a reality. In a short space of time my experience along with the help of Nadine, Jarrod and
Stacey we have taken the business places that I never thought imaginable;

* Jarrod and myself are now active committee members of the Australian Kiteflyers Society Inc. (AKS).
* The business has been a finalist in The Entrance Business Awards.
* We regularly attend associated kiting festivals and since 2005 we now host our own festival every November.
* We attend and get involved in a number of other events local to the area and remotely.
* We regularly organise trips away for kiting enthusiasts including water, salt, sand and snow.
There is a sense of joy knowing that I have the power to drag kids away from a computer or TV screen.
Although I am still proud to be an active person of an industry who is full of people who also still want to be
a "BIG KID"
